ODUNDUN VANGUARD EXTENDS SYMPATHIES TO THE VICTIMS OF THE FLOODING IN ILAWE EKITI, EXTOLS UNITY IN REBUILDING THE COMMUNITY
The Odundun Vanguard has expressed heartfelt sympathies to the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Kabiyesi, Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, HRM Oba Ajibade Alabi, the good people of Ilawe-Ekiti in particular and Ekiti State in general for the flood disaster which wreaked havoc on the community following a massive rainfall on Thursday, October 8, 2020.
It is understood that the said flood affected a number of buildings and thus displaced several residents of the noble town and also destroyed their farmland and crops.
Kayode Adaramodu, in a statement made available to news men at Ado Ekiti said, “following reports by members of the Odundun Vanguard, it is imperative, that as sons and daughters of this great town, we stand up to the challenge and ask ourselves what we can do for our community to alleviate the impact of this natural disaster. I enjoin my fellow brothers and sisters to reach out to the community at this time to alleviate the conditions of the people.” He went on to state that he has personally reached out to friends within and outside the community and will follow up to ensure that they do the needful as members and friends of Odundun Vanguard.
Adaramodu encouraged his fellow town men and women not to allow the unfortunate incident to dampen their spirit, but instead, use the situation as stepping stones to rebuilding the community to further show the unrelenting strength and unity of Ekiti indigenes.
He assured that the Ilawe-Ekiti he knows will come out of this stronger and urge all stakeholders to be ready to support in doing their bits in the rejuvenation of the spirits and beliefs of the people in the community they know, love and call home.
He further called on the State government to expedite actions on providing lasting solutions to environmental disasters, especially, perennial flood, plaguing the town because of the towns’ topography. He equally called on the Federal Government to assist the State Government in properly channelling and controlling erosion in the area to avert a repeat of this ugly incident.
He concluded by pleading with government at all levels, relevant agencies of government, NGOs, good spirited individuals and all and sundry to immediately rally round the victims of the disaster and provide the necessary succour to them in this trying period.
